Sustainability Initiatives:
Sustainable building is one of the core values Caron is based upon. We have introduced many of our clients to the benefits of sustainable building practices and to resources that can improve their project’s ecological and economical footprint. Nearly all of the projects that we work on are urban infill, or properties that were previously developed, which prevents urban sprawl through density and the propagation of a variety of uses within the urban core. We have helped promote the Built Green program on our low-rise housing projects. Built Green is a similar program to LEED, where a level of certification is achieved through an emphasis on low-impact development, better-than-code energy efficiency and installation of energy and water saving appliances. Caron designed the first Built Green Emerald Star home in Seattle, the highest certification available through the Built Green Program. All of our major projects practice Low-Impact Development, which is a rainwater management approach that emphasizes controlling runoff through engineered on-site features that replicate the natural hydrologic process.
