This hard, black glass-like stoneware named after the volcanic rock basalt, was used by James Turrell in collaboration with ceramist Nicholas Mosse to create a set of ceramics. The shapes are simple in form and have a light-absorbing surface. The fabric Basaltes has a slight sheen, subtle ovoid pattern and twinkles of colors running throughout to bring depth to the surface.
