This design aspires to commonality within diversity, and it has attracted over 1.4 million visitors since opening in 2016.
The prize was established in 2013 by Canadian architect Raymond Moriyama along with the RAIC and the RAIC Foundation and was originally called the Moriyama RAIC International Prize.
The invention of this new material – cast-glass cladding – took four years of experimentation and collaboration with a Canadian glass artisan.

The RAIC International Prize – formerly the Moriyama RAIC International Prize – is a unique award recognizing great architecture anywhere in the world that transforms society and promotes justice, respect, equality, and inclusiveness.
Awarded every two years, the Prize is open to all architects, of every nationality and location. The winner is chosen in an open juried competition
Three RAIC International Prize Scholarships are also awarded to students of architecture in programs in Canada, in conjunction with the RAIC International Prize.
